While details are sparse, we won't say no to some more windjamming.

A sequel to Data East’s Neo Geo classic Windjammers is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2019.

We already knew a port of the original Windjammers was headed to Nintendo Switch on October 23rd, but Dotemu has now confirmed Windjammers 2 at today’s Indie Highlights presentation and via press release.

Not much is known about Windjammers 2 yet, but it does come with the promise that it will “...combine everything fans love about the classic title with entirely hand-drawn 2D animations to create the ultimate windjamming experience”. Dotemu didn’t show us any actual gameplay, but the trailer’s ’90s inspired anime vibe seems to give us a good idea of what we can expect artistically.

Despite the fact that Dotemu brought the original Windjammers to PS4 and PS Vita before coming to Switch, at least for now, it seems as if the game may be a console exclusive for Nintendo. Further details about the game haven’t been revealed just yet, but it seems likely that we’ll see an evolution of the original Windjammers’ Pong-style gameplay.

Windjammers was originally released by Data East for the Neo Geo in 1994 with a later release hitting the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console. The game’s re-release, and its upcoming sequel were handled by retro-gaming revivalists Dotemu.
