Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered may be coming to Nintendo Switch

Data miners find references to Nintendo Switch in Windows release.
Red Faction Guerilla Remastered Nintendo Switch

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered may be coming to Nintendo Switch, if files recently uncovered in the PC version are anything to go by.

Data mining team “The Cutting Room Floor” have found something curious in the PC version of Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered. The team uncovered an image that clearly shows the Switch’s distinct button configuration, along with an XML file responsible for unpacking the image (that calls the buttons by name).

Sample of an XML “switch” reference:

While this could very well be nothing, it’s worth noting that Red Faction: Guerrilla was initially developed by Volition, with the remaster being published by THQ Nordic. These are the same teams responsible for the upcoming Nintendo Switch release of Saints Row: The Third. Interestingly, the game uses a proprietary engine called “GeoMod 2.0”, which has not yet been ported to the Nintendo Switch. Could Red Faction: Guerrilla possibly be the first GeoMod title to make it’s way over to Switch?

Red Faction: Guerrilla was originally released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and THQ Nordic published the “Re-Mars-tered” edition of the game to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in July 2018. Unlike previous games in the series, Red Faction: Guerrilla is a third-person, open-world shooter. Since the franchise debut in 2001, the games have become famous for allowing unprecedented levels of world destruction.

Until an official announcement is made, Nintendo Switch owners will just have to wait and see if they’ll also be able to join the Red Faction take a trip to Mars.
