Saints Row: The Third is being ported to the Nintendo Switch

THQ Nordic and Deep Silver bring the 2011 turf-war to Switch.
Saints Row the third Nintendo Switch

THQ Nordic surprised fans today with an unexpected announcement – Saints Row: The Third is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch. While followers of the Saints Row series will no doubt be pleased to see the open-world action game on Nintendo’s handheld, it’s curious that the publisher opted not to port the latest game in the franchise (Saints Row IV) instead.

As with previous games in the series, the third outing centres around the gang Third Street Saints gang, with players fighting other gangs to claim the most turf. Set in an open-world, with more mature themes, Saints Row: The Third should deliver a genre of game that’s not yet available on the Switch.

Saints Row: The Third was released in 2011 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and was reasonably well received by critics and gamers. The game was originally developed by Volition, the same team behind “Agents of Mayhem”, which was set in the same fictional universe as Saints Row.

Details on the Switch version are a little light at the moment, but it was revealed that developer Deep Silver Fish Labs would be be handling the Nintendo Switch port. While there’s been no word on an Nintendo Switch release date just yet, more details are expected to be shared during the course of Gamescom 2018.
