Platinum Games’ next step in the Platinum 4 campaign has begun with Project GG. Announced in Famitsu Magazine, Director Hideki Kamiya kept information about the title release sparse. However, we do know it’ll be targeting all major platforms and will be a part of Kamiya’s “Hero Trilogy” (referring to Viewtiful Joe, The Wonderful 101, and this Project GG).

Kamiya considers Viewtiful Joe as a Kamen Rider style unique transformation game, while Wonderful 101 plays as a hero team (similar to Power Rangers). Project GG, in contrast, will be about a single gigantic hero. While the director sees the action of the game as important, this will not be the main focus of the gameplay.

Marking their first time publishing a new intellectual property, the studio is aiming to develop a novel title. Challenging the conventions they’ve established, they look to exceed and undermine the expectations of fans in a positive way.

Ending their interview, Atsushi Inaba discusses the capital alliance with Tencent. The tech giant offered the funding and publishing of Project GG, to which Platinum refused. Choosing instead to accept Tencent’s investment, Inaba didn’t want to give up the developmental freedom obtained by self-publishing.

The first part of the Platinum 4 was a Kickstarter campaign to bring a remaster of The Wonderful 101 to modern consoles. Now reaching above $1.7 million in funding, this campaign is at nearly 3500% of its initial goal. Thanks to stretch goals, this campaign now will have Switch, Steam, and PS4 versions, as well as a time attack mode and a 2D side scroller featuring Luka’s first mission. The next goal will be at $1.75 million, providing a remix for the soundtrack.

With the first half of the Platinum 4 now revealed, Famitsu reiterates that the final two announcements will also be of games. The final title is a secret, and is something “very interesting,” says Kamiya.
