Undertale for Switch gets a September release date & Collector’s Edition in Japan

Digital, Physical, and Collector's Edition... Undertale's got you covered.
Undertale Switch Release Physical

Undertale, the hit indie RPG by Toby Fox, has finally received its Nintendo Switch release date – September 15th 2018. The announcement also revealed that Undertale would be getting two physical releases in Japan, a standard and Collector’s Edition.

Originally released for PC on September 15th 2015, Undertale will be celebrating it’s third-year anniversary when it finally lands on Nintendo Switch. Although a western release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, given the significance of the date (and having already been translated), it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to hope for a synchronised worldwide release.

Collectors will be pleased to hear that in addition to a digital release, the Switch port of Undertale will be getting two physical releases. Both the standard and Collector’s Edition will include a 24-page story booklet featuring illustrations by Temmie Chang (Undertale’s main artist). There will also be some retailer-specific bonus items (such as art cards).

In Japan, Undertale for Switch will be priced at 1620 yen (inc tax) for the digital download version, 4320 yen (inc tax) for the standard physical edition, and 9504 yen for the physical Collector’s Edition. That’s roughly $14.99 / $39.99 / $84.99 USD, although regional prices are always adjusted slightly.

The Nintendo Switch Collector’s Edition will be produced by Fangamer Japan and, story booklet aside, will also include a whole host of other goodies. Fangamer previously released Undertale Collector’s Editions for other platforms worldwide, so a release outside of Japan is highly likely. The Japanese Collector’s Edition includes (may change):

  • Undertale 24-page Story booklet
  • Undertale 2-CD Collector’s Edition Soundtrack (over 100 tracks)
  • Musical score booklet with annotations by Toby Fox (featuring 6 songs).
  • A pendant music box with 14-karat gold plating.
  • One of six collectable bookmarks (randomly chosen).
  • A microfiber cloth (randomly chosen).
