The puzzler-meets-battle-royale phenomenon, Tetris 99 is getting additional modes thanks to some unexpected downloadable content! Dubbed the “Big Block” DLC, it can be purchased now for £8.99 / €9,99 / $9.99 from the Nintendo eShop.
Newly announced modes include a CPU Battle mode and Marathon mode. The CPU Battle mode gives players the opportunity to harness their battle royale skills against 98 CPU players. Marathon mode challenges the player to clear the most lines humanly possible in order to reach (and beat) your high scores.
Both Battle and Marathon modes work offline and purchasing the Big Block DLC will allow you to get a taste of Tetris 99 without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Keep in mind, online modes will still require a membership to the service.
Nintendo has also teased a third offline mode coming to Tetris 99 later this year. Players who opt to purchase the DLC now, will be able to enjoy all additional modes coming to the game as they are released for just that one purchase.
For those with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, the 3rd Maximus Cup is also on its way! Running from 12 a.m. PT on May 17th to 11:59 p.m. PT on May 19th, players will earn points for every match played. The higher you place, the more points you earn and netting 100 points during the event, will unlock an in-game theme bringing a nostalgic taste of the original Game Boy title released in 1989 to Tetris 99.
Get your Tetriminos ready, and be sure to check out the trailer for a glimpse and the new modes coming to Tetris 99 as part of the Big Block DLC!
