Octopath Traveller 1 Million Thanks

Octopath Traveller, the Nintendo Switch exclusive RPG from Square Enix, has shipped 1 million units globally during its first 3 weeks on the market. The impressive 1 million figure accounts for both Nintendo eShop digital downloads and physical copies of the game. Releasing on July 13th 2018 (after two popular demo distributions), Octopath Traveller has joined the ranks of Nintendo’s best-selling titles. It hasn’t been a smooth ride though, with Square Enix failing to estimate the game’s high demand, resulting in physical stock shortages and an apology being issued on twitter the day after release.

Octopath Traveller is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Square Enix and Aquire (the guys behind Tenchu). It features a unique graphical style that combines 16-bit SNES-like assets with 3D environments and HD visual effects, a style that the development team coined as “HD-2D”. In Octopath Traveller, players can choose to journey as one of eight different travellers, experience eight separate stories, and battle with each character’s own unique abilities. The game also includes upgradable equipment, a party system, shops, fast travel, hidden treasures, and an unconventional battle system featuring “Breaks” and “Boosts”.
