Nintendo has revealed a new 4 player co-op mode for Super Mario Party at this year’s Gamescom. “River Survival Mode” has players rafting downstream while trying to avoid obstacles and win minigames.

River Survival Mode was revealed in a video that had the Nintendo Treehouse team introducing the finer points of the new mode during a 10-minute gameplay segment.

Instead of competing for coins and stars, players will instead work together to reach their mutual goal of getting to the end of the river. Even just navigating through the water requires your team to coordinate steering the raft with your Joy-Con controllers.

Each round begins with one minute on the clock, but doing things like reaching benchmarks, collecting bonuses and succeeding at minigames will add to your time.

The river is also littered with obstacles like rocks, fast currents and familiar Mario enemies that will slow you down or stop you from popping the balloons that allow you to begin a minigame.

Nintendo also confirmed a number of other previously unannounced details about Super Mario Party during a showcase from Nintendo’s RedCube team. Super Mario Party hasĀ 80 new mini-games and was described as a return to “the roots of the franchise.”

A new fruit-themed board was also debuted along with the news that every board can be played in either “free for all” or “2v2” mode.

Super Mario Party comes to Nintendo Switch on October 5th.
