Switch firmware 6.0.0 removes ability to unlink Nintendo Account from profile.

Check your accounts are linked correctly, this may be your last chance.
Nintendo Switch Account unlink Switch

Starting September 18th (19th in Europe), Nintendo Switch users will no longer be able to unlink their Nintendo Account from their user profile. The change in how accounts are managed will come as part of the Nintendo Switch 6.0.0 system update.

While the Switch’s upcoming firmware may include some new icons and USB keyboard support, removing the ability to unlink Nintendo Accounts doesn’t sound quite as appealing. Once rolled out, all eShop purchases and My Nintendo rewards will be tied to their associated Nintendo Switch user profile permanently.

Nintendo hasn’t provided an explanation for their revision in how Nintendo Accounts are linked, but considering that the new paid-for Nintendo Switch Online launches the same day, it’s most likely related.

If you have multiple user profiles on your Nintendo Switch (including child accounts), now would be a great time to check your Nintendo Accounts are all linked up correctly. As once the update rolls out, you’ll probably be out of options.

Nintendo Switch firmware 6.0.0 (and the linked Nintendo Account changes) are expected to roll out on:

  • 5pm PT – 18th Sept 2018
  • 8pm ET – 18th Sept 2018
  • 2am CEST – 19th Sept 2018
  • 1am BST – 19th Sept 2018
