Overwatch for Switch rumours confirmed, launching October 15th

Rumours never die.

Update: The original version of this article claimed Overwatch would be releasing on October 18th, per Kotaku’s report, but the game will actually be releasing a few days earlier on October 15th. After the Direct, a Physical release of Overwatch: Legendary Edition with 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online packaged in was also confirmed to be on the way.

As the Nintendo Direct hype train reaches maximum velocity, Kotaku has today confirmed the rumours of Overwatch being ported to Nintendo Switch.

Kotaku editor Jason Schreier has posted an article confirming that Overwatch will be announced for Switch during tonight’s 40-minute Nintendo Direct, set to take place at 11 PM BST / 3 PM PST / 6 PM EST. According to Kotaku’s sources, Blizzard’s beloved hero shooter is said to be coming to Nintendo Switch on October 18th 2019.

Recently, an Amazon listing for a PowerA Switch case “Officially Licensed by Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment” stirred the rumour pot before being swiftly taken down. This leak led many to believe that Overwatch would be announced in an upcoming Nintendo Direct.

However, rumours have been circulating for some time that Blizzard’s latest success would eventually make its way to the hybrid console, though nothing concrete has ever come out. The last time we heard anything relating to Overwatch on Switch was Blizzard Vice President Jeff Kaplan stating in a Reddit AMA back in 2017 that “Getting OW on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we’re always open minded about exploring possible platforms.” After 2 years of waiting, Overwatch fans will be overjoyed to finally have the game’s release confirmed later tonight.
