Nintendo has announced that their out-all tennis title “Mario Tennis Aces” will be treated to brand new playable characters in future. Piranha Plant has laid its roots as the first new additional character and is set to join the Aces roster in June 2019.
Mario Tennis Aces fans can expect to see a whole host of extra first-party faces in their matches over the coming months, as Nintendo plans to bulk up their tennis-playing team. While details were thin on how many characters will be added in future, Piranha Plant has been confirmed to be playable from June for absolutely free!
In order to bag the free Piranha Plant DLC as early as possible, players will need to take part in the Online Tournament (in-game) between June 1st – June 30th. That means you’ll also need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to be able to claim the new character when it initially launches. Don’t like tournaments or aren’t a Switch Online subscriber? Fear not, as Piranha Plant will also be made available for everyone a month later – in July.
Mario Tennis Aces first hit Nintendo Switch in June 2018, so while not officially announced as a first-anniversary bonus, it certainly feels like one. Nevertheless, it certainly nice to see Nintendo supporting Mario’s tennis ventures a year on from launch.
Piranha Plant will be available for Mario Tennis Aces this June for Online Tournament goers. Those who don’t mind waiting it out can also grab the leafy contender in July 2019 when it becomes available for everyone.
