Multiplayer and voice chat come to Stardew Valley on Switch this week

More importantly, horses can now wear hats!

Virtual farmers have been patiently waiting for multiplayer to come to Stardew Valley on Switch since the game was announced in 2016. Earlier this year, co-op came to the PC and Mac versions of the game and this Wednesday (December 12th) it will be available for Nintendo Switch players too.

The Stardew Valley 1.3 update brings 4-player online co-op to the farming sim. Players will now be able to invite up to three of their friends to help out around their farm. As well as being able to start from scratch, friends can move onto an existing farm and will receive their own cabin to live in. Plot points are shared so you’ll need to decide as a group whether you want to join the evil JojaMart or repair the community centre.

There’s one pot of money for all players but everyone looks after their own private inventories, skills, relationships and more. Just like in the PC version players can also choose to ask a friend for their hand in marriage by crafting a wedding ring and proposing.

Stardew Valley is also joining the roster of games compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online app to bring voice chat to the game. Of course, online multiplayer is subject to a Switch Online subscription but up-to four consoles can connect locally for co-op gameplay.

Single players haven’t been forgotten either with some new content also making its way to the Switch in version 1.3. There’s a new Night Market to visit for three days in Winter, some new secret events, horses will be able to wear hats and more.

Stardew Valley 1.3 and online multiplayer will be available on Nintendo Switch on December 12th, 2018. For more information be sure to check out the official announcement on the Stardew Valley blog.
