After months of silence, Game Freak’s tentatively titled “TOWN” has been officially re-revealed during the September Nintendo Direct. Now titled “Little Town Hero”, the game is due to launch on the Nintendo Switch eShop on October 16th 2019.

Revealed back in September of 2018, Little Town Hero is a new RPG from Pokémon development team, Game Freak. The Nintendo Direct trailer revealed more than just the new name and release date, as we now have a more solid idea of what this new IP entails. Set in a town where the residents have agreed to “never leave town”, you play as a boy named Axe who steps up to defend the town from attacking monsters.

The game features a mix between turn-based RPG combat and strategy. Players are given a list of attacks (refers to as “ideas” or “eureka”) that have different stats for attack and defence. Similar to a strategy card game, attacks are pitched against one another to see who comes out on top. Choosing the correct idea to counter the enemies attacks is the only way to victory. You are also able to move Axe to points across the map, utilising the various townspeople waiting to help you out for extra support.

In a surprising turn of events, Little Town Hero’s soundtrack comes courtesy of Undertale developer/composer, Toby Fox, alongside Hitomo Sato of the Pokémon series.

Little Town Hero is available to pre-load on the Nintendo Switch eShop now and releases on October 16th for £22.49 / €22.49 / $24.99.
