Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD from mobile to consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. No date has been set for the game’s release on Switch as yet, with the announcement being made via a trailer posted to YouTube.
Pocket Edition is an abridged version of Final Fantasy XV, a game that saw its release to PS4 and Xbox One in 2016. Players still follow the same storyline as the original game but the open-world aspect has been removed, offering a more linear and focused experience with fewer side quests.
While the voice acting and soundtrack of the main game remain in Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD, players will instantly notice the more cutesy, chibi-style look.
To better cater for a mobile experience, the Pocket Edition plays from a fixed camera angle and uses the touchscreen to move characters. The mobile and PC releases of the game offered the first chapter for free with subsequent releases available as in-app purchases but the console releases are instead a single purchase of £24.99 / $29.99 / €29,99.
Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD is available now for PS4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch release is “scheduled for release soon”, so stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks.
