Disney has announced a two-game collection for Nintendo Switch, featuring enhanced versions of their classic 16-bit video games The Lion King and Aladdin. The collection, which will be available in both physical and digital formats, is set to launch on October 29th 2019 for $29.99.
Anyone that grew up in the ’90s will tell you that things were just better back then. Saturday morning cartoons, real toys in cereal packets – and most importantly – licenced movie tie-in video games that didn’t suck. Aladdin and The Lion King both had multiple 16-bit video games released on the SNES, Sega Mega Drive and Game Boy. But now, in 2019, you finally revisit these classics on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console!
Titled “Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King”, the collection includes:
- Disney’s Aladdin on Mega Drive, Game Boy and Super Game Boy
- Disney’s Lion King on SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy and Super Game Boy
- Upscaled graphics, customisable controls and retro screen filters
- A “Rewind time” feature to assist in those notorious hard spots, or jump in and out of the action with the “interactive game viewer”
- A museum of artwork, music and behind-the-scenes features
Strangely, Aladdin on the SNES is missing from this collection. One possible explanation could be a licensing issue with Capcom, as the rest of the collection were published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment. However, nothing has been confirmed just yet.
Disney’s Classic Games featuring Aladdin and The Lion King is set to launch for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on October 29th 2019. The Nintendo Switch physical release is already available to preorder for $29.99 from Amazon US, but pricing in other regions is currently unknown.
