Dark Souls: Remastered gets an October release date on Nintendo Switch.

Switch port finally surfaces, five months later than other platforms.
Dark SOuls Remastered Nintendo Switch Release Date

After months of speculation, Dark Souls: Remastered has finally received it’s Nintendo Switch release date. Both the remastered title and it’s accompanying Solaire of Astora amiibo will release on October 19th 2018.

Announced back in January, Dark Souls: Remastered was initially lined up for a May 25th 2018 release on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A few months later, Bandai Namco issued a press release that stated the Nintendo Switch port had been delayed and would no longer be launching alongside the other platforms. The new scheduled release date for Nintendo’s hybrid console was left as a fairly ambiguous time-frame of “Summer”.

Since the April postponement, Switch fans have been anxiously watching the various retailer placeholder dates shifting around and patiently waited on any official announcement to put them at ease. Thankfully, today is that day. The announcement, which was sent through a press release and via Twitter, revealed that both the remastered title and the Nintendo exclusive “Solaire of Astora” amiibo would be coming October 19th.

DARK SOULS - SOLAIRE OF ASTORA AMIIBODark Souls: Remastered for Nintendo Switch will run at 1080p in docked mode and 720p while portable, with both play modes offering a 30FPS frame rate. The Artorias of the Abyss DLC, which was previously sold separately from the original game, will also be included in the Remastered version and extends the game’s story by a significant number of hours. The remastered version of the game will support up to 6 players online and make use of a dedicated P2P server. Besides looking fantastic, the Solaire of Astora amiibo will unlock the in-game “Praise the Sun” gesture when tapped on the Switch Joy-Con or Pro Controller.

During the original announcement, Bandai Namco stated that they would be running a free network test to prepare the game’s online multiplayer functionality. Understandably, with the delay of the Switch port, the Nintendo Switch network test was put on hold. Although a new date hasn’t been announced yet, considering the PS4 and Xbox One network tests were carried out 12 days before their platform-specific releases, we may see a Switch network test in early October. That would also line up closely with Nintendo Switch Online’s launch date, which will presumably be required to participate.
