Blasphemous, a new metroidvania from Team17 and The Game Kitchen, has been announced for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One. Set to release in 2019, the game comes packing a gothic and gory trailer for all to enjoy.

Blasphemous takes place in a nightmarish, blighted world called Cvstodia. The people who inhabit the world have been affected by a curse called The Miracle. Players take on the role of The Pertinent One, who must explore Cvstodia’s dark gothic world, slaughter the grotesque monsters and looming bosses, and end the world’s eternal damnation.

Judging by the trailer, Blasphemous seems to be inspired by Castlevania and Dark Souls. Fast-paced action combat lets you tear monsters to shreds, with awesome finishing moves that crush enemies into a bloody pulp. There also seems to be a large world to explore with pieces of equipment and prayers to find scattered around it.

These collectables, known as Relics and Rosary Beads, are used they improve your characters abilities and destructive power.

Blasphemous also features a skill tree that allows players to customise and upgrade their characters attacks and abilities. Gruesome 2D pixel-art brings the gory, dangerous world of Cvstidoa to life – this doesn’t look like a game for the faint-hearted.

Check out the trailer below to see how the game is shaping up. Whilst the only release information we have is that it’s set to launch at some point this year, this definitely looks like one to watch. Blasphemous releases on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2019.
