Puyo Puyo Champions, the competitive Puyo Puyo-based eSports offering from Sega, is now available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC in the West. Priced at £7.99 / €9,99 / $9.99, the Switch version is available digitally from the Nintendo eShop.
Originally released in Japan last year as “Puyo Puyo eSports”, Puyo Puyo Champions takes the charm of the series and adds a competitive edge. Players can compete against friend and foe both locally (with local multiplayer) or online (via online matchmaking)! Puyo Puyo’s “Fever Mode” makes a return in Champions. Based on the popular rule-sets from Puyo Puyo Fever and Puyo Puto 2, Fever Mode allows players to dominate their opponents using the pre-made chains at their disposal.
Puyo Puyo Champions boasts a Tournament Mode, which allows players to compete in locally in eight-player tournaments. Game replays are enhanced with a replay auto-saves (alongside a Battle History feature), allowing those sweet combos to never get lost! The latest instalment will even support dual audio, allowing players to play the game with the original Japanese voice acting, along with English, French, German, or Spanish in-game text.
Puyo Puyo is a series of puzzle games that tasks the player with matching “Puyo” by colour in chains of four or more – with the goal of getting combos to send garbage to your opponents! Players can select from various charming characters to play as and can also enjoy the charming voice acting that comes along with it.
