Aokana – Four Rhythms Across the Blue secures a Western release on Switch

The award-winning visual novel gets its Western console debut in Summer of 2020.

Aokana TitleReleasing Summer 2020, this romantic visual novel takes place in a world wherein science has invented anti-gravity shoes, a sport called Flying Circus features this newfound ability to fly through the air. Playing as Masaya, a former competitor, players must support the transfer student, Asuka, as she learns to fly.

Aokana gives players urgency to play through it multiple times, making different decisions by introducing a branching plot-line with multiple endings and four heroines from which to choose. The game also has seven songs from across five different main routes for players to enjoy.

Originally released in Japanese in 2014, the PC version of Aokana placed first in that year’s Moe Game Awards. Later released on PS Vita, PS4, and finally Switch in March 2018, the game had no localized version until its release on PC in English in September 2019. Thanks to this announcement, English speaking console fans will finally experience this romantic adventure, targeting a release window of Summer 2020, published by PQube.

Aokana – Four Rhythms Across the Blue received a manga adaptation which began serialization in October 2015 which is still releasing. It also received a twelve-episode anime adaptation in 2016, produced by studio Gonzo. A mobile game was released in October 2016, while the visual novel was announced to have a spin-off and sequel that had been put on hold following the hiatus of the developer, Sprite.

In November 2019, Sprite was announced to have resumed operations and plans to work on the spin-off title. This title is the second developed by the studio, with their first having been another romantic visual novel, Love, Election, and Chocolate.
