A trilogy of Dragon Quest classics launch on Nintendo Switch this September

Launching alongside Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Dragon Quest 1, 2, 3 for Nintendo Switch

Enhanced ports of three classic Dragon Quest JRPGs will be coming to Nintendo Switch on September 27th 2019. Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II Luminaries of the Legendary Line and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation will be available individually from the Nintendo eShop, priced at $4.99, $6.49 and $12.49 respectively. Pricing for other regions is yet to be announced.

Originally released for NES in 1986, Dragon Quest has spawned multiple sequels and spinoffs, becoming one of the cornerstones of the JRPG genre. The upcoming Switch games are not ports of the NES originals though, instead, being based on their mobile versions – which feature enhanced and updated graphics.

Despite a physical triple-pack being announced in Japan, fans across the waters will be disappointed to hear that a Western physical release hasn’t been announced. Luckily, the Japanese triple-pack is set to include English language support, so importing is still a viable option for all the collectors out there.

The three upcoming Dragon Quest titles are often referred to as the “Erdick Trilogy” as they all feature the iconic Dragon Quest hero, Erdick. Those who haven’t played a Dragon Quest game before will recognise him as one of Hero’s 4 character skins in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

You can pick up Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II Luminaries of the Legendary Line and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation when they launch via the Nintendo eShop on September 27th 2019. Those looking to import the physical triple-pack can snag a copy on Play-Asia for around £34 / $40.
